Update #3

October 3, 2009 / 6:14 am

Studies have been partially neglected, sleep has been lost, mood has been altered- all the cost of exciting news.

Greenville Presents
is currently a venue space in Greenville, SC that will be launching the art gallery portion of the outfit on October 16. I was asked to be one of 6 artists to show in the opening exhibition.

Seeing all the other presenting artist’s work made me examine my own a little closer. Pointless fact: one of the artists showing is a new student at CCAD, the art school I had originally planned to attend

My honest opinion: I wish I could have developed a series a little bit more for this event. I like what I have to offer. With the time allotted for me to prepare, I think what I have to show in Greenville is representative of a particular theme (style and thesis) I cover, but is not all-encompassing. I am honored to be a part of the opening at Greenville and look forward to seeing what others have to say. If you’re in the Greenville area, make sure to stop by.

I work a lot in general, but preparing for the exhibition was the highlight of my past few weeks. CLICK any/all images to enlarge/for full resolution.

I prepared a total of 12 pieces. Rejected two of them, consolidated on presentation where I saw fit, and incorporated an old series (cowboys) for the exhibition. Most this work is not on the website***.

After framing them all, wrapping and boxing them up was satisfactory in its own way.

Using up those night minutes earlier this week.

On the way to UPS, I did put them inside the car for the drive. There is a shit ton of bubble wrap on the frames, so I don’t think it would have mattered either way.

I took the past few weeks to get business cards printed for the show as well. I proofread before sending to press:

First exhibition, first business cards. It’s pretty bogus to think that I have never asserted myself before this age to be shown in a gallery setting. I am very much anticipating the opening and want to, again, thank Erica Schrag and the people at Greenville Presents for giving me the opportunity. I will update here with pictures of the gallery in a few weeks.

***jacobvanloon.com HAS been updated. I beat some life back into the illustration gallery with 9 new images, spanning completion dates from July-September of this year. I’m an idiot and completely forgot to scan the images I sent to the gallery for the opening, but those illustrations will be on the site officially once the exhibition ends. I have set up a temporary store page, as well as polishing up the contact section.

Review of site updates:

1. 9 new illustrations in the gallery
2. Store page is up
3. Contact page looks less like a 16 year-old wrote it

Check back in a few weeks for updates and pictures from the gallery reception.
